Blue Future: EU Beach Clean Up 2025
The 2025 EU Beach Clean Up and Interreg Cooperation Day will come together in Aqaba on 1–2 October to promote a shared Mediterranean commitment to environmental protection. Led by the EU Delegation to Jordan and the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, and supported by local partners, the initiative aims to strengthen cooperation while encouraging young people and the community to take meaningful action for the Red Sea’s coastal ecosystem.
The two-day programme combines hands-on environmental work with creative and educational activities. Volunteers, students, and divers will begin with an extensive clean-up along the shoreline and underwater areas. Later, workshops on recycling and a collaborative mural at Zaha Cultural Center will encourage new ways of expressing sustainability. The next day, participants will prepare symbolic “cooperation cakes” in an eco-friendly bakery, followed by a cultural evening at Aqaba Castle featuring performances and the sharing of the cakes.
Beyond the events themselves, the campaign seeks to leave a long-term impact by strengthening ties between European and Jordanian institutions and deepening environmental awareness among young people. Bringing these two initiatives together underscores their common purpose: fostering solidarity, creativity, and collective responsibility to build a more sustainable and genuinely “blue” future for the region.
