Interreg Cooperation Day 2026: Konitsa and Dropull high-school students discover Interreg through virtual reality

As part of Interreg Cooperation Day 2026, the Public Central Library of Konitsa will host the educational event "Cultural Heritage as a Digital Experience: Students from Konitsa and Dropull Discover Interreg" on 21 October 2026.

Aimed at high-school students from Konitsa, with the participation of students from the Greek Schools of Dropull, the event is implemented under the pilot initiative "Young People Without Borders – Interreg in Schools".

Over a two-hour participatory learning experience, students will explore the European Union, Interreg and the importance of Greece–Albania cross-border cooperation. The session will introduce the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme "Greece–Albania", along with projects linking culture to sustainable tourism and digital innovation, with a special focus on VIRTUALAND, in which the Public Central Library of Konitsa was a partner.

At the heart of the event will be an immersive virtual-reality experience: students will use the VIRTUALAND VR headsets to explore digitised, three-dimensional cultural-heritage material. They will then work in groups to identify elements of their local cultural heritage, reflect on how digital tools can help protect and promote it, and create their own "student message of cooperation".

Ultimately, the activity will show, in a practical and creative way, how cross-border cooperation can safeguard shared cultural heritage, strengthen young people's bond with their local area and open up new learning opportunities through technology.
