I-SEA DAY: Interreg Italy-Slovenia Marks Interreg Cooperation Day 2026

To celebrate Interreg Cooperation Day 2026, the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme is launching I-SEA DAY, a dual-event initiative that spotlights the power of cross-border collaboration.

The two events, scheduled for 21 September in Piran and 10 October in Trieste, will use the sea as a unifying theme to engage young people, local communities, and the public, demonstrating how cooperation enhances shared cultural heritage, inclusion, safety, and regional connections.

21 September 2026 – Students4Cooperation Study Visit in Piran

The first I-SEA DAY event kicks off in Piran, Slovenia, where the second and third-place winners of the Students4Cooperation competition will embark on a study visit. This contest, organized by the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Programme, introduces high school students to the principles of European Territorial Cooperation.

The day’s agenda includes a visit to the Sergej Mašera Maritime Museum, a partner in the MARE SUPERUM project, where students will explore the region’s maritime history and traditions. This will be followed by a guided tour of Piran and a stop at Tartini House, linked to the TARTINI BIS project. These visits will give participants firsthand insight into how cross-border initiatives preserve and promote the shared cultural heritage of Italy and Slovenia, turning the competition’s educational goals into a tangible experience.

10 October 2026 – I-SEA DAY at Barcolana

The second event takes place in Trieste, Italy, during Barcolana 2026, the renowned international sailing regatta. In partnership with the Municipality of Monfalcone, I-SEA DAY will highlight the impact of cross-border projects funded by the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Programme 2021–2027.

The morning session will feature presentations on the Programme’s role and the Municipality of Monfalcone’s involvement, with a focus on the MARE SUPERUM project. This initiative promotes maritime culture, traditions, and accessibility, including the restoration of a historic boat and programs to make sailing more inclusive.

The afternoon will showcase a collaboration between four Interreg Italy-Slovenia projects dedicated to fire prevention and management: CROSS ALERT, KARST SAFE, FIRESAFENET, and Karst Firewall 5.0. These projects, finalists in the Interreg Project Slam 2026–2027, exemplify how shared expertise and resources can create practical solutions for community safety.
