Celebrating cross-border partnership Through mural art in Ivano-Frankivsk

There is something profoundly moving about watching a blank wall come to life with meaning, especially when that wall stands in a community navigating extraordinary realities.

This autumn, the Interreg NEXT Romania–Ukraine Programme will bring people together for a very special celebration as part of the 15th anniversary of the Interreg Cooperation Day campaign. This milestone initiative has become a reference point where the entire Interreg community joins forces under the iconic motto "Stronger Together", making the benefits of cooperation visible right at the heart of communities and turning European values into tangible, heartwarming landmarks for all citizens.

On November 5, 2026, the spotlight will be on Ivano-Frankivsk, where a unique artistic journey will culminate. The facade is being transformed into a mural based on the winning artwork of 13-year-old from the Poltava Region, selected through a contest that captured the imagination of young creators across borders.

This initiative builds on the success of a series of mural paintings created in Suceava (2022), Chernivtsi (2024), and Tulcea (2025), which have already established themselves as symbolic landmarks of cross-border cooperation between Romania and Ukraine. Through this newly proposed artwork, the tradition of leaving a lasting cultural imprint in partner communities is further consolidated, celebrating not only 15 years of Interreg Cooperation Day, but also more than two decades of dedicated cooperation along the Romanian-Ukrainian border.

The unveiling event on November 5 will be preceded by an engaging panel discussion, bringing together local stakeholders, youth, and project partners to reflect on the true essence of cross-border solidarity, resilience, and grassroots connections. By turning public spaces into open-air galleries of cooperation, we continue to create permanent, visible tributes to an enduring truth: through unity and partnership, we are truly Stronger Together!
