Stronger Together: Interreg Cooperation Day 2026 Celebrated 15 Years of Cross-Border Connections

Around 250 participants from at least seven programme regions gathered in Achomitz/Zahomec and Feistritz an der Gail/Bistrica na Zilji, in Austrian Carinthia, on 12 September 2026 to celebrate Interreg Cooperation Day.

Under the motto “Stronger Together”, the event marked the initiative’s 15th anniversary and showcased how cooperation between Slovenia and Austria brought people and communities closer.

The day began at the Slovenian cultural association Zila in Achomitz with a screening of Bueg nan dajte dobr čas, a film produced as part of the LINGUA project, which helped preserve and promote the local Gail Valley dialect. Participants then walked to Feistritz an der Gail, discovering the valley’s shared cultural heritage, language and traditions along the way.

The gathering continued with a cultural programme, presentations of the KoloRad and LifeLongWood projects, and information stands featuring the Greißler Museum and Europe Direct. The arrival of Europe Direct cyclists added a further celebration of cross-border connections.

The event highlighted the people behind Interreg projects and the lasting value of shared knowledge, ideas and traditions. It showed how cross-border cooperation strengthened connections and created new opportunities for communities on both sides of the border.
