New report shares key findings from Interreg post 2027 consultations
Drawing input from 10 000 individuals, the report confirms the rationale for European Territorial Cooperation.
Most respondents agree that living in a border region is advantageous but also recognise development challenges, obstacles, and barriers ranging from physical obstacles to social aspects. On this basis, belief in the rationale and value of Interreg comes across strongly in the consultation reports, especially in relation to areas such as climate change, the environment, economic competitiveness, public services and quality of life as well as newer areas of activity such as safety and security.
The Harvesting reports indicates a broad consensus that Interreg adds value and brings about positive change. Key points raised relate to its huge value in knowledge exchange and learning, the durable connections between people and communities, capacity to address common and complex challenges, role in building resilience, and territorial relevance and sensitivity to territorial specificities.
These points were further reinforced at the Interreg GO! event where a variety of speakers including Raffaele Fitto, Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms, underlined the value and importance of territorial cooperation.
These insights will feed into future EU legal and policy frameworks for post-2027 cooperation.
