AEBR launches a second call for the b-solutions initiative

b-solutions, a 2-year pilot initiative financed by the EU budget and managed by the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) is launching a new call for proposals.

b-solutions is also promoted by the European Commission’s DG REGIO as one of the actions proposed in the referred Communication Boosting Growth and Cohesion in EU Border Regions.

With the new call, AEBR and DG REGIO will identify and document further cases of legal or administrative obstacles thwarting the implementation of cross-border cooperation (CBC) projects with the neighbouring local authorities.

AEBR manages the project b-solutions since December 2017. The initiative is promoted by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and is aimed at tackling legal and administrative obstacles to cross-border cooperation.

In the first year of implementation, AEBR and DG REGIO have identified 10 projects which proposed an innovative solution to foster common endeavours against an obstacle of a legal or administrative nature hindering cooperation. Details on the selected 10 projects can be found here.

The second implementation year will not only see the development of these selected projects, but also this second call will capture a wider perspective on CBC practices in the European Union. To help foster collaboration in border regions and cities, successful candidates will be specially supported. They will be assigned the support of an expert in cross-border issues, who will provide legal advice on how to better explain and overcome the identified obstacle. The aim is to define and document the identified obstacle so to be able to remove, modify or suspend those provisions which prevent cooperation from succeed and find innovative approaches to cross-border policy-making.
