A unique feature of Aurora is its integration with Sápmi and the Sami people, Europe’s only indigenous population. The programme contributes to safeguarding and developing Sami culture, livelihoods, industries, and languages. As the only new Interreg programme introduced in the 2021-2027 funding period, Aurora unites the efforts of the former Interreg Nord and Interreg Botnia-Atlantica programmes, building on their legacy to drive regional cooperation and development.
