Border Regions Peer Exchange: deadline extended to 16 September

The deadline to apply as a visitor to the Border Regions Peer Exchange on Solving Border Obstacles has been extended to 16 September 2026 at 17:00 CEST.

The initiative will bring together stakeholders from across Europe to exchange experience, explore practical solutions to cross-border obstacles and consider how these solutions could be applied in other border regions.

Launched by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and Fundación CEER (FCEER), the programme will select 100 visitors to take part in 10 peer-exchange visits between November 2026 and January 2027.

Learning from solutions to real cross-border obstacles

Each visit will focus on a real b-solutions case.

Managed by the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR), the b-solutions initiative helps identify and address legal and administrative obstacles that can make cross-border cooperation more difficult.

During the peer exchanges, participants will meet organisations and stakeholders involved in the selected cases, learn about the solutions developed and discuss how these approaches could be adapted or transferred to other border regions.

The cases cover a range of areas, including:

  • healthcare

  • public services

  • transport

  • environmental management

  • tourism

  • social security

  • territorial governance

Who can apply?

The call is open to stakeholders involved in Interreg A programmes, including:

  • managing authorities and joint secretariats

  • national, regional and local administrations

  • universities and research centres

  • European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTCs)

  • Euroregions and other cross-border structures

  • development agencies

  • chambers of commerce

  • other organisations actively involved in cross-border cooperation

Financial support for selected visitors

Up to 50 of the highest-scoring applicants may receive financial support of up to €750 per visitor. The support will be provided as a lump sum to help cover travel and accommodation costs. Applicants who are selected but do not receive financial support may still participate as non-supported visitors.

The peer exchanges offer an opportunity to learn from practical experience in other European border regions, explore responses to shared challenges and consider how solutions can be transferred to other contexts.
