    This is a cross-border cooperation programme supporting collaboration between the border regions of Bavaria and the Czech Republic.

    The cooperation focuses on fostering innovation and competitiveness through joint research initiatives such as between universities and businesses. It also aims to enhance sustainability and environmental protection by supporting projects that contribute to climate change adaptation, clean energy, and biodiversity conservation. This is of particular importance because the Bavarian Forest and its counterpart on the Czech side of the border, the Bohemian Forest, lie within the Programme are and constitute Central Europe’s largest contiguous forest landscape. The programme also supports sustainable tourism and preservation of joint cultural heritage as well as joint educational measures, especially those aimed at reducing language barriers. Measures that improve cross border governance are also part of the programme. 
    A cornerstone of Interreg Germany/Bavaria-Czechia are people-to-people projects that are mainly co-financed by the programmes small project fund. Given the regions violent 20th century, getting to know, and building trust between neighbours is of particular importance.
