Interreg Cooperation Day Heritage Encounters in Portugal-Spain Border Region

The 5th Cross-border Heritage Encounter is set to take place from September 20th to 22nd, 2024, in the beautiful towns of Almofala, Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo (Portugal), and Saldeana (Salamanca, Spain).

These series of events are part of the “V Encontro Transfronteiriço de Património” and will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Centro de Portugal-Castilla y León border while fostering a deeper sense of European citizenship and community.
This year’s theme focuses on pre-Roman Castro culture, exploring the historical legacy of this unique border territory. Participants will have the opportunity to visit significant heritage sites in the region, attend thematic conferences, and engage in discussions with local agents and communities from both sides of the border.
Through these shared activities, the celebrations seek to build understanding, discuss common challenges, and strengthen the bonds between the participating communities.

Event Highlights:

  • Heritage Tours: Guided visits to important local sites in the participating towns.
  • Conferences: Expert speakers will present on topics related to the region’s pre-Roman history and shared cultural heritage.
  • Community Dialogues: Space for participants to meet, discuss, and explore common needs and goals for cross-border cooperation.
Additionally, Heritage Booklet 4 – Escalhão/La Fregeneda will be officially presented, offering a detailed look into the heritage of these two towns.
These encounters are held in association with the POCTEP 2024 Interreg Cooperation Day and the European Heritage Days, further emphasizing its commitment to cross-border cooperation and the celebration of shared European heritage.
