Almost one in three Europeans lives in a border region. While this is often an enriching experience, it also comes with a few challenges preventing citizens and businesses from accessing services such as public transport, recruiting personnel or healthcare.
To face those challenges and ensure that each border region in the EU reaches its full potential, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) launched the b-solutions pilot initiative in 2017.
This initiative looks at each particular case, identifying the specific root causes of the bottlenecks and devising possible solutions in cooperation with all relevant organisations.
On 10 December at 15:30 (CET), AEBR, representatives of DG REGIO, participants in b-solutions and experts involved will present five booklets with information that could help stakeholders learn more about cross-border cooperation, and possibilities to enhance it:
• A story-telling type of publication illustrating the obstacles that European citizens face in border regions;
• A new compendium offering insights on the 47 cases selected in 2020 and 2021 and analysed by legal experts to suggest viable solutions;
• 3 thematic publications with a deeper analysis of causes of the obstacles and an overview of solutions to restore cross-border cooperation in three fields: Education and Employment, Public Services and the implementation of the Green Deal.
